This project will extend and upgrade Hermon Road from Parks Highway to Palmer-Wasilla Highway. Improvements will include travel and turn lanes, shoulders, pedestrian/bicycle amenities, drainage and safety.
Project development will include reconnaissance, design, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation and construction.
This project will provide a new north-south collector level road between the Parks Highway and Palmer-Wasilla Highway. This connection should reduce traffic significantly at the Parks Highway/Palmer-Wasilla Highway intersection, one of the most congested intersections in the borough.
Currently Seward Meridian Parkway is the only other north-south connection that is constructed to collector road standards in the five-miles from Trunk Road to the Parks Highway/Palmer Wasilla Highway intersection. The lack of other connectivity means drivers have to travel significant distances on Palmer-Wasilla Highway to find a connection that allows travel to the south. The same can be said for traffic travelling on Parks Highway that wants to travel north. This situation leads to congestion on our main arterial road systems.
The City of Wasilla passed a resolution of support for this project, a portion of which is inside the city limits. This is also an area of considerable commercial development, which will also benefit from the road upgrade and extension project.
