MAT-SU Borough Department of Emergency Services primarily operates an on-call paid responder system. Effective July 1, 2021, responder pay starts at $13.22 per hour for trainees and increases as the level of training increases. On-call responders are able to work up to 29.9 hours per week.

Fire Service Area (FSA) wages are paid for by area property taxes. Ambulance and rescue wages are paid through area-wide funding.

We are no longer accepting paper applications.

Our online recruitment system will improve the hiring process, making it more effective and efficient. Individuals will be able to quickly apply online to numerous vacant positions, including in-house postings, listed at Job Opportunities.

To apply through this online system, you will need to have an account through NeoGov. If you DO NOT have an account, you will need to create one at NeoGov. You will also be directed to NeoGov to create or access your account when you click on "Apply" for a job posting you are interested in on the job opportunities web page. You will be required to have a valid email address, and select a Username and Password to start an account.

If you are interested in joining the Emergency Services Team, but there is not a job posting available in the area you live or for your skill/certification level, Sign Up for Job Alerts on the job opportunities web page. There you can click on "EMS" or Fire/EMS", enter your contact information, and you will then be automatically notified when there is a job posting for positions in MSB Emergency Services.

EMS: Serve in your community!

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) typically advertises job postings to hire EMS personnel a couple of times per year. Sign Up for Job Alerts on the job opportunities web page to be notified of future job postings with EMS.

We operate under an expanded scope of practice, so you may need additional training before you are eligible to work on an ambulance.

If you are approved for hire after an interview, we will send you information for our on-line criminal background check and driving record. These will be submitted for review as part of the application process. If you are interested in EMS, you will need to comply with state certification requirements. If you have previous criminal convictions, you may not be eligible for certification.

Fire and Technical Rescue: Give back to your community!

Are you interested in giving back to your community by becoming a firefighter? If there is not a job posting available for firefighters in the area where you live, please Sign Up for Job Alerts and check the "Fire/EMS" box and submit your contact information so you can be notified about future job openings for our Basic Firefighter Courses. You must live in the Fire Service Area (FSA) in which you are applying. You can verify this information by going to "My Property" and enter your physical address or property owner name. Near the bottom of the property information will show which FSA the property is in.

Central MAT-SU Fire Department and West Lakes Fire Department will accept applications for fire trainees when they do their Basic Firefighter course. Other fire service areas may accept applications anytime. Please call 861-8019 for more information.
