As technology and devices rapidly evolve 911 education for our community, and especially for children, teens, and parents is more important than ever. “From the moment you dial 911 for help time is of the essence. It is imperative for parents, educators, government officials and 911 professionals to be equipped with all the tools available to engage our children in 911 educational efforts” EOC Specialist, Stephanie Bishop.
While the Matanuska-Susitna Borough is recognizing April as National 911 Education Month, our educational efforts do not end here. We have created a yearlong E911 Campaign, “We Can’t Help You, If We Can’t Find You” which will continue to educate our children through a program that will be presented in the schools on emergency preparedness and working with our citizens on informing them of the importance of having visible street addressing signs on their homes.
Having your address easily visible at the end of your driveway AND on your home will ensure that first responders are not left wondering if they are at the right location. Be sure to follow the Mat-Su Borough Code 11.20.060 on address posting requirements. Police, Firefighters, EMS responders cannot provide services to you or your family if we cannot find you.
Can your address be seen and found easily by-passing cars from all directions and from a distance?
Are your house numbers easily seen?
Can your house be found quickly in an emergency (day, evening and bad weather?
Post your address clearly and prominently at the end of your driveway and on your home will help alleviate any confusion as to whether emergency personnel have the correct location.
Use reflective or illuminated numbers so that it can be seen easily in the evening as well as during the day.
Use large numbers and make sure they can be seen from all directions.
Mat-Su Borough Emergency Personnel has some of the best equipment when responding to an emergency, but we need your help.
