Willow to discuss prison project

PALMER— When the Willow Area Community Organization discusses the prison project on Dec. 4, representatives from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough will attend.

The Willow Community group will meet that Monday at the Willow Community Center at 7 p.m.

A topographical map of the proposed site is displayed on the Borough Web site www.matsugov.us Follow the MAT-SU Prison Project link on the front page, click on site selection. The map shows the footprint of the prison project if it were built on the Houston/Willow area site.

A form for public comments is on the front of the Web site prison page. In order to get comments into the public record, comments should be emailed or mailed to RISE Alaska. Those comments will be compiled and presented to public officials before they vote on the issue. Public comments from the first phase have been posted on the Borough web site, prison page.

The public hearing for the Houston site will be tomorrow, Sat., Nov. 18, at Houston High School from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Houston High is off the Parks Highway past the Big Lake Exit about a half mile at 12501 W. Hawk Lane. A sign for Houston High will be on the highway.
