When is it safe to return?
- Please use caution when returning to your property. If there is still rushing water between you and your property then it is safest to wait until the water recedes. Don't put yourself at risk.
If you have returned to your property, here are some things to keep in mind.
- If your well casing is surrounded by water then boil all water before drinking it or using it for cooking. Boil for two (2) minutes at a full rolling boil.
- If you have standing water on or around your property then use your septic sparingly.
- Pump out flooded basements gradually (about one-third of the water per day) to avoid structural damage. If the water is pumped completely in a short period of time, pressure from water-saturated soil on the outside could cause basement walls to collapse.
Recovery Information
- Help Centers will be set up at Sunshine Firehall and Willow Library later this afternoon. At these stations you will be able to submit Help Requests. Recovery information will be provided and you will be directed to available resources in the area. A packet of information will be available.
- Arrangements are being made to provide dumpsters at critical location ns. As soon as they are in place the location ns will be announced.
- Coupons for use of the landfill or transfer stations in order to dispose of flood debris are being prepared at this moment and will also be available at the Help Centers.
