Tri-Borough Mayors Call for State Energy Policy
Energy Development, Efficiency Top Recommendations
Alaska's future economic health is at risk by shrinking energy supplies and rising costs, so the State must adopt an overall energy policy, say the Southcentral regional mayors representing more than 60 percent of Alaska's population
A comprehensive Alaska energy policy should promote development of non-renewable resources, such as an Alaska natural gas pipeline and increase oil development, encourage energy efficiency and be market-driven, according to Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich, MAT-SU Mayor Curt Menard and Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor John Williams.
The three, working together through the Tri-Borough Commission, developed their own proposed energy policy for the Southcentral region as part of an overall state energy policy and today forwarded it to state leaders as they consider an overall Alaska energy policy.
