Seeking comment on timber harvest schedule

 The Matanuska-Susitna Borough adopted the Natural Resources Management Units Plan last September 2010. We are now moving forward to the second phase with the Five Year Timber Harvest Schedule. Comments will be accepted through August 31, 2011

The Schedule proposes several timber harvests over the next five years. After receipt of public comments a packet will be sent to the Borough Assembly for their review on 9/20/11. All public comments will be included in this packet. The public will also have the opportunity to comment at the public hearing for the adoption of the legislation, possibly 11/01/11.

Upon adoption of the Schedule the Borough will move to the third phase of the plan which is to draft a Periodic Timber Harvest Implementation Schedule (Implementation Schedule). The Implementation Schedule will contain detailed information for the 2012 proposed timber sale offerings. The public will have the opportunity to review these offerings.

The Implementation Schedule will then be published and offered through the competitive bid process of the Borough’s Purchasing Division.
