Redoubt eruption continues

MAT-SU—12:38 p.m.-Redoubt volcano continues to rumble quietly with the last large explosion at 4:31 a.m. Continuing activity indicates smaller explosions with no significant ashfall. Indicators suggest this level of activity could go on for weeks or months. Reported ashfall has been minute. If an event occurs the plume is expected to travel westward to remote areas and the Susitna Valley.

Flights are diverting, Asian flights diverting south, some flights leaving Anchorage for northern destinations are cancelling. Public is urged to check specific flights with the airlines.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough activated a skeleton crew in the Emergency Operations Center. Emergency responders in the Susitna Valley were notified, including Willow, Talkeetna, and Trapper Creek areas.

All schools in the MAT-SU Borough are expected to remain open.

The ashfall advisory has been extended until 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. People in areas of ashfall should seal windows and doors, protect electronics, and cover air intakes with nylons. Bring pets indoors if possible. Minimize driving. Tune into local media and the Borough emergency website at www.matsugov.us
