Matanuska-Susitna Borough Public Affairs Director Patty Sullivan has resigned and accepted a position with ConocoPhillips.

Sullivan’s 13.5 years of work spanned fisheries, emergency communications, grant writing, and priority projects. She established the first Borough Office of Public Affairs and expanded Borough communications from a single press release a year to nearly a thousand over a decade. Sullivan added social media to the Borough’s outreach in 2009 before most entities felt comfortable to adopt it. The Public Affairs office produced videos, photography, podcasts and PowerPoint presentations which were presented before legislators.

In 2014, a landmark change to State commercial fisheries regulations passed to allow more northern salmon to return home, due in part to the strategic communications by the Public Affairs Office. The Mat-Su Fish & Wildlife Commission honored Sullivan and her co-worker with a proclamation for their work in fisheries.

Public Affairs’ presentations each year to the Legislature helped garner $154 million in State appropriations to the Port MacKenzie Rail Extension.

She helped in the development of Government Peak Recreation Area. She wrote two grants for $590,000 to light the trails and add fire suppression for the chalet.

Stefan Hinman will be the point of contact for Public Affairs.
