On Monday, December 3rd the Planning Commission held a public hearing for legislation addressing air quality issues in the Butte area.  Resolution 18-29 recommends Assembly adoption of code updates relating to air quality including the adoption of a proposed Air Quality Management Plan.  Staff presented on the status of the local air quality issue including implications for resident’s health, regulatory authority, and potential impacts for the Borough and residents if our air exceeds the federal health standards.  Four members of the public offered comment during the hearing. Staff was requested to incorporate additional language clarifying that this legislation does not regulate wood stoves or other heat sources.

In light of the recent earthquake, staff recommended extending the public hearing to allow further input from the public.  The Commission voted to extend the public hearing to the February 4th Planning Commission meeting.
