Off-road motor access resolution postponed

MAT-SU BOROUGH—At 11:44 pm the Assembly decided, 5-2, to postpone indefinitely a resolution on a motorized, off-road corridor in Hatcher Pass near a proposed Nordic ski area.

Assembly Member Cindy Bettine asked that a worksession be held April 13 with staff and the Assembly. Assembly Member Ron Arvin asked that all work meet a 60 day comment period to be included in a draft update of the Hatcher Pass Management Plan, now underway with the Alaska Dept. of Natural Resources.

Proponents for snowmachine and Nordic trails filled the Assembly chambers and packed the hallway and stairwell for most of the night. A glimpse of the crowd is on the Borough's facebook page.

The resolution that was under consideration can be viewed on the Borough web site under Assembly and March 2 general meeting: resolution 10-011.

Yes votes: Assembly Members Colver, Bettine, Woods, Houston, Halter

No votes: Assembly Members Ewing, Arvin.
