borough-seal_roundThere is no immediate or anticipated threat of radioactive exposure from the Japanese nuclear plant explosion.

The Alaska State Emergency Coordination Center is working with and is constant contact with the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Nuclear Regulatory Commission, FEMA, the Department of Defense, US Health and Human Services, and the Alaska Department of Public Health who continue to monitor the overall situation, the air quality, and the weather patterns.

All of the above agencies concur that this is not a Chernobyl-style incident, and there is no catastrophic failure of the nuclear plant, and that no significant radiation release is anticipated. For up-to-date radiological information please go the Alaska Department of Health and Human Services website at: http://www.hss.state.ak.us.

Alaska State Emergency Coordination Center continues to monitor the situation and states that there is no immediate, or anticipated threat from this situation.
