New Wetlands Website and Training for Mat-Su

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough has created a new wetlands website with comprehensive information about wetlands. The web site was developed to provide information about wetland identification, the functions of wetlands, project planning and permitting. The website contains links to a wetlands map viewer that covers the central areas of the MAT-SU and answers many frequently asked questions about wetlands.

On March 7, the MAT-SU Borough and the US Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting a Wetland Training Workshop in Wasilla at the MSB Public Safety Building, 101 W. Swanson Avenue from 11:30-2:00pm.  The workshop is geared towards builders, realtors, engineers, surveyors and other persons involved with building or land management in the MAT-SU.

"Over 25% of the MAT-SU is wetlands", according to Mike Gracz, Wetlands Ecologist, who conducted the field work for the MSB Wetlands Map Viewer.  The web site, map viewer and workshop are all designed to give landowners information about their properties so they can plan projects with wetlands in mind.

The workshop is free and open to the public.
