Butte — In the winter shadow of Pioneer Peak, at just 12F degrees, a small group, including State Rep. Bill Stoltze, cut a surveyor tape to celebrate the new $1.44 million Sullivan Bridge today in Butte.

New Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly Member Jim Sykes, and Road Service Area #26 Chair Marty Quaas joined Rep. Stoltze with cutting the ribbon.

Borough Manager John Moosey, new Borough Capital Projects Director Mike Brown, Transportation Manager Brad Sworts, Manager of Operations & Maintenance Jim Jenson and his wee daughter, & contractor HDL, Hattenburg, Dilley & Linnell, attended, among others.

Sullivan Bridge is one of the Borough's first road projects this season on a tremendous list of capital projects underway at the Borough including $64 million in road bonds projects and $214 million in school bond projects. MAT-SU voters and State legislators approved the funding. Voters recently approved another $16 million in school road projects that await funding match approval by the Legislature.

Manager Moosey thanked voters and Rep. Bill Stolze for support of MAT-SU roads.

Orion Marine did the construction work. The abutments to the old bridge were failing and eroding. An inspection by Alaska DOT recommended replacement of the bridge.
