Matanuska-Susitna Borough

More Discussion on Budget Cuts

Matanuska-Susitna Borough Manager John Moosey presented his plan last night to the Assembly for reducing $5.7 million from the Borough's 2017 budget to make up for the loss in revenue from Governor Bill Walker's veto of school bond debt reimbursement. More discussion, is the message the Manager took away.

As he presented, the Manager said some time exists to deal with the deficit.  "The only caveat is if you see something on there we're cutting and you say 'no, no, no you're not cutting that,' until you tell me to release that, I'm not spending those dollars," Moosey said.

Assembly Member Randall Kowalke requested that the city block grants be reinstituted with Deputy Mayor Matthew Beck concurring. Assembly Member Jim Sykes said he supports the plan in the short term but wants to continue gathering more information.
