Matanuska-Susitna Borough Fish and Wildlife Commission chair, Mike Wood from Talkeetna, has been recently nominated by Governor Dunleavy for a three year term on the Alaska Board of Fisheries (BOF).

The BOF sets policy and direction for the management of Alaska’s subsistence, commercial, sport, and personal use fisheries.

Mike has been a member of the FWC since 2016, and serves presently as the FWC chair, a role he has filled since 2019.  Mike is an active commercial setnet fisherman in Upper Cook Inlet. He is also vice chair of the ADF&G Upper Susitna Advisory Committee and co-founder of the Su Salmon Company.

The FWC has represented the Mat-Su Borough at the Upper Cook Inlet Finfish BOF meetings held every three years since 2011. Their advocacy of science-based BOF policies has resulted in more salmon returning to the Mat-Su. The FWC is presently gearing up for the next UCI BOF meeting that’s scheduled for late February in 2024.
