McKinley / Deshka Fire Debris Management Plan

Debris caused by the McKinley and Deshka Landing Fires will be accepted at no cost at specific open locations outlined below beginning Tuesday, August 27th, 2019 until further notice. Eligible debris includes scorched or burned items, water damaged items, spoiled foodstuffs, scrap metal (not including truck or car bodies or frames) and brush.
Brush and trees continue to be accepted free of charge at the old Sunshine Transfer Site (mile 102.5), Big Lake, Central Landfill and Willow Transfer Station. Scrap metal (fuel tanks, car parts, refrigerators, etc.) is accepted at Big Lake, Central Landfill and Willow Transfer Station. Loads brought to Transfer Stations must be no larger than 5 cubic yards and 8 feet in length. No load limit exists for Central Landfill.
Residents will be required to fill out and sign a certification stating the fire caused the debris and provide their personal contact information. Personal information is confidential and will not be shared with entities except those required to seek State or Federal reimbursements.
Hours and days of operation for each location are as follows with additional days being added August 28, 2019. Additional days are outlined in red:

Normal residential refuse (not incident caused) is accepted at current fees. Residents unable to burn due to the burn ban are encouraged to transport their waste to the Transfer Stations or Central Landfill. Standard fees apply. Fees can be found at: https://www.matsugov.us/services-and-rates.
This is an initial response. Expect adjustments to Solid Waste operations as the extent of the incident become clearer. Initial date of this letter, August 21, Update 1 August 26.
