Mayor Vetoes E-Cig Tax Vote

The Mayor vetoed the vote for changes to the ordinance on taxes for E-smokes. It will be on the 9/1 Assembly agenda. Here's his remarks.

Please be noticed that I am vetoing Ordinance 15-098- “An Ordinance Amending MSB 3.30.200, Definitions, Excise Tax On Tobacco Products.”

This is about due process. We may have done the right thing but I have been contacted by numerous people in the business who did not know this legislation was about E cigarettes. The title of the legislation had nothing to indicate the specifics were focused on taxing E cigarettes. I believe we would have more balanced testimony on this issue if it were to be retitled and re-advertised with a public hearing.
