Mayfield Pulls Ahead Via Absentees

Incumbent Dan Mayfield was down by 19 votes at the polls to challenger Clayton Tew on election night, but now leads by 18 votes after the count today. Mayfield and Tew are in a race for Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly District 5. One of the district's precincts, Big Lake, had the highest voter turnout of 24.94 percent. 

Election results are not official until certified next Tues. at 5 pm in the Borough Assembly chambers at 350 E. Dahlia Ave. in Palmer. The five-member Canvassing Board has been verifying the eligibility of the cast ballots since last week.  The Canvassing Board counted the absentee and questioned ballots today.

Ted Leonard leads Pat Hogan in the race for Assembly District 4, Wasilla, 557 to 327 votes. Assembly Member Steve Colligan served 6 years in the seat.

In School Board District 6 race, incumbent Kelsey Trimmer leads Emery Schramm 378 to 261. School Board Member Ole Larson ran unopposed in District 3, garnering 423 votes. 

The 3 percent sales tax for the Talkeetna Sewer and Water Service Area passed 52 yes votes to 40 no votes. 

Not all precincts had a ballot to vote in this election as there was no borough-wide candidate or proposition.
