Mat-Su — Residents along the Old Glenn Highway between mile 13-15, as well as Sutton, continue to wait and watch the Matanuska River as it chews on its banks. Emergency Manager, Casey Cook reported no change to the “action” status, which is determined by the river gauge placed on the Matanuska River. At this time the shelter at the old Senior Center in Palmer is ready if needed, but no residents are using it presently.
The Talkeetna River gauge is showing an “action” stage at the railroad bridge and is also being watched.
Willow Creek has shown signs of rising but is not in an “action” stage at this time.
Everyone is on alert and ready to proceed with the necessary steps if needed as the NOAA weather forecast is for more rain which could raise levels. Emergency Manager Casey Cook says the fire departments are on alert and monitoring the situation very closely.
