Candidate for Assembly District 7, Doyle Holmes, challenged the ballot counting procedures Friday in the Oct. 6 Matanuska-Susitna Borough election. Holmes is leading in the poll count by 52 votes over candidate Randall Kowalke. The Borough Canvass Board began verifying absentee ballots the day after the election. A two-person Review Board is going to begin counting the ballots today. Saturday, the Canvass Board rejected Holmes' challenge. During the canvassing and now ballot counting, only observers approved by the Mat-Su Borough Clerk are permitted in the election room.

Attached are the challenge by Holmes and the reasons the challenge was rejected by the Canvass Board.

A final tally is expected today on the election. The unofficial results are scheduled to go before the Assembly for certification Tues. at 5 pm in the Assembly Chambers at 350 E. Dahlia Ave. in Palmer.
