The Matanuska-Susitna Borough and partners will be gearing up for a global economic development conference in Anchorage in 2015. Today, Bill Popp of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation said the global meeting will put Alaska on the world stage.

Mat-Su Borough Economic Development Director Don Dyer invited Popp to speak with economic development groups, local leaders, and entrepreneurs in the MAT-SU today. In his 45-minute overview, Popp welcomed collaboration with the Mat-Su, saying at least one day of activity will occur here.

Popp described the conference holder, the International Economic Development Council, as the largest economic developer organization in the world. Some 1,200 attendees are expected at the four-day conference in Anchorage with an expected 200 to 300 site selectors for companies.

"Site selectors represent globally ... about 50 percent of companies worldwide in making their decisions where they're going to invest next, where they're going to build their next facility, where they're going to put up their new back office, their new distribution facility, their new manufacturing site, their new call center. You name the industry, about half the companies globally use site selectors as opposed to their own internal real estate resources to make decisions," Popp said.
