Flooding Closes Roads & Prompts Rescues

MAT-SU—Flooding overnight caused rivers to go over their banks flooding roads and closing some as a result of the high water.

MAT-SU— Flooding overnight caused rivers to go over their banks flooding roads and closing some as a result of the high water.

Current Road Closures:

 

  • Yoder Road at Montana Creed Bridge. The water is 1.5 feet over the road.
  • Mile 5, 8, 10, and 14 of Oilwell Road in the Petersville area.
  • Mile 5.4 Oilwell Road the culvert is our and there is approximately 10 foot gap in the road.
  • Creekside Drive off Willow Fishhook Road.
  • Johnson Road off Willow Fishhook Road.
  • Burrow Road off Willow Fishhook Road.
  • Friday Road off Willow Fishhook Road.
  • Deneki Road off Willow Fishhook Road.
  • Stinson Road in Willow.
  • Michelle Drive off Talkeetna Spur Road.
  • Little Otter Road in Wasilla.
  • Hatcher Pass Road at mile 26 is washed out at Shirley Creek
  • Pool Street is flooded and washed out.
  • Sushana Drive off Schrock Road is flooded and cars cannot get through.

Dogsled Road near mile 96 of the Parks Highway and Montana Creek is flooding but still passable however the water is continuing to rise.

N. Welch Road near the Little Susitna River has water flowing down the road. Borough Responders went door to door to warn the residents in the area.

A flash flood occurred at Lockcarron Drive. The rising water trapped approximately 20 residents who had to be rescued by the MAT-SU Water Rescue Team.

Two families were evacuating from Kalispell Road because of rising water in Montana Creek. High water is eroding Kalispell Road near Montana Creek and one house within a hundred feet of Montana Creek is flooded.

Flooding is undercutting the shoulder of the road at Moose Creek at mile 4.5 Petersville Road

The Red Cross has established shelters at the Menard Sports Complex, Willow Community Center, and Upper Susitna Senior Center.

The MAT-SU School District has been contacted and notified of the road closures.

Mutual Aid has been requested from the Anchorage Fire Department to help rescue residents stranded by high water.

Please drive cautiously and do not attempt to cross a bridge covered with water and avoid low lying areas. Never try to cross flowing water way…even a small one. If you encounter a flooded roadway ‘Turn Around...Don’t Drown’
