Flood event update 3 am, Sept. 22

EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER—Here is a 3 am update on the Flood Event. No new road closures have occurred in the last several hours. Water levels have been reported receding in East Talkeetna and some on the Little Su River.

Roads Re-opened:
Pool Drive has been re-opened. (2336hrs.)
Flooding/Damages:
Culverts blocked --Wasilla Creek at Tiffany Drive (Amber Woods Subdivision), causing water to go over roadway. Sandbags have been requested and are in route to Tiffany and Riparian. (2057hrs.)
Residence off of Discovery Bay (Riverdell Subdivision) off Fairview Loop and KGB is reporting flooding in their basement from Cottonwood Creek. (2207hrs.)
Water reported to be flowing across road and filling up culverts at Old Trunk and Palmer Wasilla Highway. This is affecting Three Bears, Pioneer Peak Elementary School, and Four Corners. (2239hrs.)
Report of water flooding the gated entrance to Pioneer Peak Elementary. Water is spilling onto Trunk Road and going into the parking lot at Three Bears. (2334hrs.)
Report of water starting to recede in East Talkeetna. (2352hrs.)
Report of water level of Little Su River receding 2 inches in the last 2 hours. Report received from resident who lives 1.5 miles upstream of Parks Hwy. Bridge (2407hrs.)
Report of flooding Wasilla Creek at Nelson – water has risen a foot and is running swiftly. (0241hrs.)
Evacuations:
Residents in Amber Woods Subdivision being advised to evacuate. (2219hrs.)
 
Shelters:
Alaska State Fairgrounds via the Red Cross will be opening grounds to stage motorhomes/RVs as a sheltering site for evacuees. (2129hrs.)
Total number of people in shelters throughout the borough: 11. (2200hrs.)
 
Weather:
National Weather Service Alaska Branch reported flood warning for Matanuska Valley extended from now until Sunday at 1600hrs., flood warning for the Susitna Valley is extended from now until Sunday at 2200hrs. (2332hrs.)
