Fire Property Tax Relief Forms due Aug. 21

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough will be accepting applications for property tax relief for the properties that have sustained damage in the Sockeye Fire.

A property owner must apply for the tax relief using the Borough Application for Fire Relief form. The form is available online. This application also will be mailed out to all property owners who had property damaged during the Sockeye Fire.

To qualify for tax relief:

• the property must be valued on the 2015 Certified Assessment Roll

• must have sustained damage exceeding $1,000

• and the application must be completed and filed in our office or postmarked by Aug. 21.

The tax relief for the property owner will be for the reduced assessed value due to the fire damage from the date of damage through the end of year 2015.
