Emergency Rail Drill this Friday in Houston

Matanuska-Susitna Borough emergency responders will be participating in a drill near Millers Reach Road with the Alaska Railroad, the city of Houston, and contractors this Friday and Saturday, April 28-29.

Expect to see emergency response vehicles and activity at:

  • Millers Reach Road and the railroad off the

           Parks Highway

  • Houston Fire Station 9-1 and 9-2, off

           Armstrong Road along the Parks Highway  

  • Houston City Hall at 13878 Armstrong Road in

           Houston

  • Station 6-5, 650 N. Seward Meridian

The drill will exercise the response to a mock train derailment with simulated injuries via manikin victims and actors in makeup, and on Saturday, a simulated hazardous materials response.

Several agencies are involved:

-Matanuska-Susitna Borough, West Lakes Fire Dept., EMS, PIOs, Emergency Management, hazardous materials crews

-Alaska Railroad, Corp.

-AK Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Mngt.

-American Red Cross of Alaska

-Houston City, Fire Department, PIO

-CERT, Community Emergency Response Team
