Campfires still banned on Borough land

Conditions are still bone dry in much of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, and the threat of fire remains high. The Borough continues its ban on campfires in Borough parks and on Borough public land. The State has lifted restrictions on campfires in some State parks. Campfires on private land are allowed.

Two parks have similar names along the Little Susitna River. To clarify, campfires in both parks are banned.

1) Little Susitna River Campground at mile 57.5 on the Parks Highway on Armstrong Road near Houston. Campfires are banned due to the threat of fire. This is a Borough-owned park, operated by the City of Houston.

2) Little Susitna Public Use Area off Little Susitna River Access Road in Point MacKenzie, a State facility, campfires are banned here.

Fireworks are illegal in the Borough. Burn barrel use is suspended by Forestry in the Mat-Su. Check the State Forestry page before ever burning.
