Borough road construction update

 The Matanuska-Susitna Borough has 18 active new road projects. Learn what six Borough roads will be under construction this summer and what nine are under design, and what's pending. Listen to Mat-Su Borough's Mike Brown, the Director of the Capital Projects Department, as he updates the Assembly this week.

Some of the discussion includes:

• The total bid timeline for road projects from receiving bid documents to Assembly approval is eight weeks. Some on the Assembly have asked for recommendations for possible changes in code to shorten the timeline.

• Of the nine projects under design, Bogard Road, Clapp/Mack roads will require two construction seasons and will be completed in 2015.

• 10 road projects will be completed in summer 2014, as forecasted.

• Right-of-way acquisition can be a wild card and can alter timelines.

• 70 other, smaller road projects, many of them maintenance and upgrades, are underway in another department, Public Works
