susanmastiff2MAT-SU—   Last Monday, Animal Care removed ten Mastiffs, a hermit crab, and fish, among other pets, from a MAT-SU residence. Complaints over abandoned dogs on Knik River Road prompted MAT-SU Borough Animal Care officers to apply for a search and seizure warrant.

Three officers and two State Troopers with the Borough's new Animal Care Manager Phil Morgan took part in the seizure. Animal Care Veterinarian Katrina Zwolinski said all 15 dogs are being treated for routine health issues, health concerns and conditions induced by "lack of basic husbandry." The tropical salt water fish and crab were transferred to a permanent residence in Anchorage. Potential charges against the owner are pending further investigation.
