Mrs. Naomi Weetman's third grade class from Academy Charter School collected $389 in donations. The students also had created drop-off spots around the school for pet supplies and food. The class handed the kindness over this week to Animal Care Chief Bob Haskell.

"It was a welcome surprise," Haskell said. "I mean $389 is a lot of money for a third grade class to gather. I'm impressed."

The students held bake sales to raise the money.

The money will go toward expanding the cattery.

Assistant Borough Manager Elizabeth Gray was impressed with the children's regard for animals. "Even our school kids are thinking of our unadopted pets. We thank Mrs. Weetman for thinking of us," Gray said.
