Borough Finance earns prestigious recognition

MAT-SU­– The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Finance Department does it again. For the 25th consecutive year, the department has again won the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report.

"It's a tribute to the commitment of the employees of the Borough Finance Department. For 25 years in a row they have received this award. Outstanding," Acting Borough Manager Elizabeth Gray said. "Taxpayers' funds are being properly monitored, managed, and invested." The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Tammy Clayton, Certified Public Accountant and Director of Finance, and Elizabeth Hartley, Certified Public Accountant and Comptroller, are being honored with an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for preparing the comprehensive annual financial report. Hartley has been with the MAT-SU Borough for six years and has been a part of this award all six years.

Clayton has been with the MAT-SU Borough for 19 years, 12 of them as Director of Finance.  "The receipt of this award is due to the dedication and commitment of the Finance staff, who make sure our reports accurately and completely reflect the finances of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough," Clayton said.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C.
