Animal Care officers in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough removed 24 dogs and 5 birds from the home of resident Wendy Rayburn yesterday (July 31). Officers had to walk through animal feces to gather the pets.

Rayburn had been cited multiple times since April for not having a kennel license and for failure to provide sanitary enclosures for the dogs and birds.

She pleaded no contest to the unsanitary enclosure charge and has a court date in August on the kennel license.

Twenty four dogs were seized in all. The animal count is 22 Pomeranian mixes, 1 Silky Terrier, and 1 Lab mix. Four of the birds are Lovebird parrots and the fifth is a Conure parrot.

Rayburn's home is off Knik Goose Bay Road and Horizon.

The shelter is unable to give further details as this is an ongoing investigation.
