2019 Preliminary Election Results

The Polls closed tonight at 8pm for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Election with a 8.98% voter turnout. The preliminary results were reported tonight by 8:29pm and posted immediately to the MSB website and Borough social media.

In an extremely tight race, Brian Endle leads Tim Hale in Assembly District 1 by just 2 votes, 983 to 981. Votes are also tight in Assembly District 2 where Stephanie Nowers leads LaMarr Anderson by only 99 votes, 610 to 511. Not to be outdone in School District 2, James Hart leads Ray Michaelson by only 26 votes, 600 to 574. In School District 5, Ryan Ponder is ahead of Alma Hartley by 113 votes, 296 to 183. School District 7, Jeff Taylor went unchallenged and received 359 votes. See the rest of the preliminary results at the link below.

686 absentee ballots, 164 questioned ballots and 10 special needs ballots were not counted tonight and could affect some races. The Canvass Board will begin working tomorrow by verifying precinct results with the spreadsheet and review precinct ballot accountability reports. The next step will be reviewing the eligibility of the outstanding absentee, questioned and special needs ballots. The final step is the Review Board counting the confirmed ballots.

Election certification is scheduled for November 19, 2019.
