Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Sushanna Drive Flood Hazard Mitigation

Scope

This project will improve drainage capacity in this flood channel area of the Little Susitna River. This will involve clearing the right-of-way, elevating the surface of the road and deepening and widening the ditching on either side of the road.

The existing cross culverts also need to be enlarged to accommodate flood events.

After construction, rip rap will be added to stabilize the soil on road embankment sides and around the culvert to protect from fast flowing water.

Project Benefits

This Project:

  • Elevates the roadway to reduce overtopping of the road during flood events
  • Reduces or eliminates risk of storm water hazards
  • Stabilizes the soil around the roadway and culverts

Project Status

Design status is 65% complete, waiting on funding for the remainder of the project. A complete Hazard Mitigation Grant has been submitted to FEMA.
