Mat-Su | Stefan Hinman | Saturday, July 12, 2014

Mat-Su— The Voluntary Evacuation Notification for the Butte is lifted for now. The water level of the Matanuska River is now below action stage and will not crest until tomorrow evening before midnight. It should stay below minor flood stage. Mat-Su borough staff will continue to monitor the levels and inform the public if conditions change. Sandbags are still being provided by the Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services for both Talkeetna and Butte residents. For Talkeetna, the sandbags are available at the Mat-Su Borough maintenance building on Comsat Road. Business hours are from 7am-4pm Monday through Friday. The contact person is Mark Goetsch. In the Butte, sandbags will be stored at the Butte Fire Station. If more sandbags are needed at either location after hours, people can call Palmer Dispatch at 745-4811.
