In time for the new school year, a temporary traffic signal was installed by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities on Seldon Road at the entrance for three schools, Teeland Middle School, Mat-Su Career & Technical High School, and the newly-built Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Capital Projects Department requested the installation. “We received numerous phone calls from concerned citizens regarding the safety of students, parent drivers and school personnel passing through that intersection,” said Jude Bilafer, Capital Projects Director.
Bilafer met with ADOT&PF and explained that school traffic and residents could not wait for the coming Seward Meridian Parkway project scheduled for 2018. Seward Meridian Parkway will eventually connect Bogard Road to Seldon Road, creating a new north-south corridor past the schools.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough thanks ADOT&PF for taking action and installing the temporary signal. School traffic is already running much smoother.
