Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Section of Totem Road closing

Mat-Su | Patty Sullivan | Thursday, October 11, 2012

A section of Totem Road is closing indefinitely because the section is too steep and narrow.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Operations and Maintenance division is closing a section of Totem Road outside Wasilla, where the hill is too steep, too narrow, and is a safety and maintenance problem.  This section does not hinder access to any residence.

It is a minor change to the traffic flow as you can see in the attached map.  This is in effect today, and will be closed indefinitely.  Approval and permits came from our right-of-way division and the road service advisory board.

The road is closed with type III barricades anchored into the ground and an earth berm will be placed behind the barricades to ensure safety.  Lights are on top of the barricades for extra awareness at night. One sign saying road closed is mounted on one of the barricades.

See the map for a closure of a section of Totem Road here.
