MSB Working in preparation for COVID-19

Earlier today, Governor Mike Dunleavy issued a Public Health Disaster Emergency Declaration for COVID-19. Even though there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alaska, the potential is high for cases to begin showing up. This declaration will activate additional State resources in response.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough has been active for several weeks in anticipation of the virus moving closer to home in Alaska and is reassuring the public of its commitment to residents’ needs. “We are prepared but not panicked. The Borough will continue to provide essential services as we all do our part to meet this health and economic challenge,” says Mayor Vern Halter.

The MSB Emergency Management and Emergency Medical Services first responders are working with Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), Mat-Su Regional Medical Center (MSRMC), along with other local, State and Federal health care professional partners to closely monitor any and all updates for reported cases in Alaska and in the Mat-Su Borough. “Our dispatch contractor and first responders are trained and prepared to recognize health concerns related to COVID-19 virus, as are the health care providers throughout the Borough. Precautions are being taken for responses, transports and decontamination to and from MSRMC when applicable,” said Emergency Services Director, Ken Barkley.
