Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Monday Afternoon update 9-24-12

Mat-Su | VickieLee Fenster | Monday, September 24, 2012

We have crews throughout the  borough assessing the damage to roads and structures.  We will begin to get the numbers tomorrow.  It will take several days to get a ball park figure on how much and where the damage is.

We have heard from the crews that they are finding a lot of roads are undercut and debris is in the roads.

The weather is forecasted to hold some showers after Midnight, not much accumulation.  Winds  will be variable from the North East about 15 knots.

TROOPER UPDATE

The troopers are reporting that the Parks is open.  Be careful around Nenana they are still working on the road and it may at times be down to one lane.

The Denali Highway is closed.

DOT UPDATE

Knik River roads Hunter creek blowout has been repaired, those crews have moved up to Clark-Wolverine.

Glenn Highway going north, at Moose Creek they have reinforced the bridge and are stating that there is no real risk of losing the bridge.  At Kings River the road and bridge it are stabilized and the crews are holding their ground.  Water here has not receded and they are still monitoring.  There is sloughing on some of the road banks, and DOT is aware of them.  Crews will be heading up Fishhook and Hatcher Pass first and then back up to the Glenn.
