MATSU—Here is the latest information on the McRoberts Creek fire outside of Palmer.

MATSU—Here is the latest information on the McRoberts Creek fire outside of Palmer.

This is what we know:

  1. -It is a human triggered "active fire" of about 21+ acres. (Smoldering in black spruce off the road system)
  2. -It has not expanded beyond the 21 acres today.
  3. -It is located outside of Palmer off the Maud Road Extension towards Jim Lake.
  4. -30 firefighters worked the fire last night. A total of 50 will be on it today.
  5. -Division of Forestry is at the scene along with the Pioneer Peak Interagency Hotshot Crew.
  6. -A second hotshot crew (Gannett Glacier) will be arriving from McGrath.
  7. -DNR Helicopters will be working the scene with bucket drops this afternoon so local air traffic should avoid the area.
  8. -The Plumley-Maud rd. trail in the area has been closed. PLEASE DO NOT USE
  9. -There is a local burn ban since 9am Wednesday.
  10. -All burn permits are suspended.
