MSB Temporarily Closes Animal Care Facility

Matanuska-Susitna Borough Temporarily Closes Animal Care Facility to the Public Until Further Notice

In line with Alaska Department of Health and Social Services precautionary principles on COVID-19, the Mat-Su Borough Manager has decided to temporarily close the Animal Care facility to the public for Friday, Saturday and will re-evaluate on Monday. Animal Care is normally closed on Sunday and Monday. Matthew Hardwig, acting-Animal Care Director, sent the following email to animal staff on the afternoon of March 12.

"To keep you aware, there is a shelter employee's (relative) that has been tested for the coronavirus (COVID-19) today. I'm told the results for the test will return in 2-4 days. As soon as I hear any updates, I'll forward them to you. In the meantime, Please use precautions. Washing hands, don't touch your face. Attempting lo stay 6ft way from others, etc. There will be further instructional  education to follow."

Staff will continue taking good care of the animals and will go through a thorough disinfection process. "We must take responsible precautions in serving our public. We are hopeful for a positive report, but need to take measures for all possibilities," said Mat-Su Borough Manager, John Moosey.
