Mat-Su Declares Disaster for Wildfires

Matanuska-Susitna Borough Manager John Moosey and Mayor Vern Halter signed a disaster declaration today for multiple wildfires in the Borough since Saturday August 17. The two largest, the McKinley and Deshka Landing Fires, driven by strong winds, combined have engulfed more than 5,000 acres, damaged homes, property, disrupted communication, delayed travel, and harmed wildlife.

This Disaster Declaration recognizes this and asks that the Governor also declare a disaster emergency and provide state assistance.
