The Matanuska-Susitna Borough joins the national effort to recognize April as National 911 Education Month, along with Congress and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).

NENA CEO, Brian Fontes made the following statement. "For forty years, 9-1-1 has served as the vital link between the American public and emergency services. Public education and awareness initiatives throughout the years have contributed in large measure to the incredible and ongoing success of the emergency communications system. It is our hope that all groups interested in promoting and enhancing the safety and welfare of the public will help deliver critical 911 messages this month."

For the Mat-Su Borough, the E911 campaign extends for the entire year by educating children through a program presented in schools on emergency preparedness. This program will work with citizens to inform them of the importance of having visible street addressing signs on their homes. The campaign's message: “We can’t help you if we can’t find you.”  In his memo, Mat-Su Borough Manager John Moosey wrote: "We are excited to launch our new campaign and work with our citizens to make our communities safer."
