Iced up roads leave drivers in distress

The Parks Highway north of Wasilla near mile 47 of the Parks Highway will be closed for an undetermined amount of time due to a crash involving a semi-truck and two cars that happened at 4 p.m. It’s unknown the severity of the injuries sustained from this crash. People wanting to travel through this area can detour around the crash by using Pittman Road to Church Road, or vice versa, according to Beth Ipsen with the Alaska State Troopers.

The trailer is blocking 2/3rds of the roadway, allowing troopers to direct traffic slowly through this area. Another possible detour is KGB-Vine roads. However, conditions on these roads were horrendous earlier.

The driver of a Durango and the driver and passenger in a Jeep involved in this crash were transported. We hope their injuries are minor and they make a swift recovery, Ipsen wrote on Trooper facebook.

"Please, if you don’t need to travel on the roads tonight, stay put. There have been numerous reports of assessment road conditions in many parts of the state, especially Southcentral Alaska. Please have a safe weekend," Ipsen wrote.
