The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities cautions motorists to be extremely careful as roads are very icy throughout the Central area.

The northbound lanes of the Glenn Highway are currently closed as of approximately 1:30 p.m. at Eagle River Hill due to an accident.  Local law enforcement is detouring traffic to the Highland exit.

Motorists are encouraged to check 511 for updated travel advisories by calling 511, by accessing the 511 website located at http://511.alaska.gov/alaska511/mappingcomponent/index or by accessing the Department’s Facebook page or Twitter feed.

“Know that your Department of Transportation Maintenance and Operations,” said Commissioner Pat Kemp, “has all available equipment and crew out working to sand the roads as quickly as possible.

All State of Alaska offices in Anchorage and the MAT-SU Valley are sending employees home on a staggered schedule this afternoon.
