Election results Oct. 2009

Unofficial results are in from the polls.

Mayor Talis Colberg retains his seat of Mayor with 9,001 votes over candidate John Leiner's 2,207 votes on election night.

“I'm happy to have the opportunity to serve a full term,” said Mayor Talis Colberg, after looking at the unofficial numbers. “I appreciate the effort of my campaign manager Larry Bottjen, especially in the last week.”

In Assembly District 3, (Trunk Road, Fairview, Seward Meridian areas) unofficial results show challenger Ron Arvin leading the race over Assembly Member Michelle Church with 929 to 660 votes respectively.  

In Assembly District 6, (including Hatcher Pass, Schrock, Memory Lake areas) Assemblyman Rob Wells with 258 votes may have lost his seat to School Boardmember Jim Colver who has 849 votes. Former Assemblyman Jim Turner follows in second with 781 votes.

In Assembly District 7, (northern MAT-SU including Talkeetna, Sunshine areas), Planning Commissioner Vern Halter leads with 1,049 votes to former Assemblyman Doyle Holmes' 864 votes.

For School board Seat A, Michael Dunleavy leads with 4,972 votes, followed by Adam Boyd with 3,279 votes, Jamey Duhamel with 1,191 votes, and Neal Lacy with 1,092 votes.

For School Board Seat B, School Board Member Sarah Welton leads with 4,898 votes, followed by former School District Superintendent Bob Doyle with 4,159 votes. James Tapley garnered 1,423 votes.

For School Board Seat E, School Board Member Erick Cordero leads with 3,952 votes followed by Dave Anderton with 2,513 votes, and Julie Collins with 3,291 votes.

Voters turned down the 3 percent Borough sales tax with 2,805 yes votes to 9,401 no votes.

The $31.7 million in School bonds for capital improvements, proposition 2, does not have support tonight: 6,297 voters said no, 5,814 voters said yes.

Voter turnout tonight is 22 percent.

Some results of the races could change as 1,423 absentee ballots have been issued. More absentee ballots could come in. Friday is the last day to receive them. Some 513 questioned ballots were issued and 21 special needs ballots were issued.

The Canvass Board begins counting absentee ballots on Wednesday.
The expected certification of the election will be on Oct. 20, Tuesday, at 5 p.m.
