EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER Matanuska-Susitna Borough residents can expect increased air activity as helicopters and fixed wing aircraft conduct post-damage assessment aerial surveys. The surveys conducted will identify the extent of damage to roadways and infrastructure. They will also be conducting assessments of the needs of isolated individuals.

The MAT-SU Borough Emergency Operations Center recommends that individuals in affected areas continue to shelter in place and if necessary evacuate to one of the three Red Cross shelters located at the Willow Community Center, Larson Elementary School, or Su Valley High. All shelter information is available at www.matsugov.us.

According to the National Weather Service the Talkeetna River crested at 7 this morning at a stream flow volume of 53,000 cubic feet per second. The normal stream-flow volume for the Talkeetna River is 8,000 cubic feet per second. New reports indicate that Yoder Rd. in Talkeetna has experienced flooding.

The Little Su continues to rise and the National Weather Service expects a broad crest this afternoon. This means the river will stay at the maximum water height for a few of hours before decreasing in volume.

The Emergency Operations Center will continue to issue updates every two hours.
