Offices and facilities of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough are closing at 3 pm today due to deteriorating roads from freezing rain. This includes, pools, ice rink, landfill, libraries, and offices.

Borough Public Works and road maintenance contractors have been tending Borough roads all day. State highways began to have trouble spots around 1 pm.

Earlier this afternoon the Glenn Highway northbound lane at Eagle River hill was closed from an accident. A detour sent drivers to the Highland exit.

Motorists are encouraged to check 511 for updated travel advisories by calling 511 or checking the 511 website with a mapping feature.

Reports of icy roads are most recently for state roads: Palmer-Wasilla Highway, Trunk Road, Knik Goose Bay Road and Fairview Loop, Knik River Road. State sanders were dispatched to those areas.

Mile 56 Glenn Highway had a truck leave the road around 2:30 pm. No injuries reported. An injury accident occurred at Glenn Highway and Cedar Hills late this afternoon.
