Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Assembly Overrides Pot Moratorium Veto

Mat-Su | Patty Sullivan | Tuesday, May 17, 2016

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly overrode Mayor Vern Halter's veto on an ordinance that established a moratorium on pot businesses until Oct. 19. The Assembly also amended the legislation to remove the earlier expiration date for grow facilties. A citizen's initiative is on the Oct. 4 Borough ballot for voters to consider whether they want to prohibit marijuana businesses in the Borough.

Deputy Mayor Matthew Beck made the motion to reconsider the ordinance on the moratorium, listen to his reasons why.  Listen to audio of Mayor Halter and the Assembly here. No one objected to overriding the veto on the moratorium on pot businesses in the Borough.

An earlier press release goes into detail on the moratorium vote.
