Manager candidates at 7 now

boroughsealMAT-SU— The list of Matanuska-Susitna Borough manager candidates is now down to seven after Assembly Members spent Monday interviewing 11 candidates by video-conference.

The candidates are listed here in no particular order with their present or recent job.

• James Wilson, County Manager with Galveston County, Texas.

• Melinda Carlton, Township Manager with Vernon Township, New Jersey

• Don Baird, Town Manager of Granby, Colorado

• Philip Oates, City Manager for Seward, Alaska

• Eric Strahl, City Manager with the City of Menominee, Michigan

• Gregory Young, City Administrator of Ferndale, Washington

• Desmond Mayo, Director of Finance with Crowley Petroleum Distribution, Wasilla, Alaska

The manager search will be discussed in executive session on Oct. 19, likely with two new Assembly Members on board. The election will be certified earlier that night at 5 p.m. Another date for interviews is so far set for Oct. 26 at 1 p.m., place to be determined.

Mayor Talis Colberg is appointing a deputy mayor on Oct. 19. Colberg leaves his seat on Oct. 20. Colberg is the new Director of the Matanuska-Susitna College, University of Alaska, Anchorage. Candidacy filing for the special mayor election will begin in November. The new mayor would serve out the remainder of Colberg’s term until October 2012. The special election for mayor is set for Jan. 11.
